About Peter
My purpose in this life is to help others heal; to help alleviate some of that human suffering that is so prevalent in the world. Is it possible to truly heal? Is it even possible to, restructure and reform those wounds from our past? So many efforts have been tried for so long throughout human history. Talk therapy, pharmaceuticals, regression therapy, shock treatment, prayer, and on and on; yet little is changed.
How Does “the Medicine” Work …
Psilocybin, “the Medicine” works on another level than traditional Western medicine. Scientists have now identified what is known as the Default Mode Network, or DMN, of the brain. It is composed of the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex and it is there that each of us has constructed a framework of sorts; built filters through which we “see” the world. Based on how we were raised from infants, through childhood, adolescence and on into adulthood, that filter system was constructed, reinforced, and protected us especially in childhood, to keep us ever vigilant and watchful for the dangers we encountered. Whether that be an alcoholic biological parent, an abusive foster parent, a dangerous neighborhood in which we lived, a teacher who abused us, or other adults in positions of power who took advantage of us; we learned in the best way we knew at that young and tender age to keep ourselves safe.
Or maybe we grew up in a safe, or relatively safe home environment; then as an adult we were sent off to war; a loved one passed over and there was unfinished business we had not resolved and we were left with the regrets; or some other event occurred whereby we had to deal with an extreme shock, one that changed us at such a deep level that we still suffer its consequences today.
For myself, I was raised in a stable and for the most part safe home. There were definitely dysfunctional aspects to it; at times poor boundaries, ongoing threats of being hit by my mother, though she never did. Then at age 18, my girlfriend and I were abducted by two men and she was raped. Both her and my families had no idea how to process that traumatic event, and so it sat and festered within her and I for many years. I share this event simply to say I have an understanding of the experience of trauma; both its short and its long-term impacts.
Psilocybin is a Sacred Medicine that has been gifted to humanity to assist in its healing. It is not in any way meant to be a recreational drug; it is meant to be treated with honor and respect. It is meant to be consumed with deep preparation and intention. The person who will embark on their inner healing journey needs to prepare themselves, physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally for what they are about to participate in with the Medicine. It is a co-creative process and my part is to assist in that preparation and intention setting, then to sit with the traveler as their safe support system, to give them water if they are thirsty, to hold their hand if that is what they request, to guide them to the restroom if that is what they need, to help calm them if they experience feelings of overwhelm, to get them a blanket if they are cold; to be there for whatever it is they need in those moments.
The Medicine is not simply a chemical compound; it is intelligent and it connects us with a greater intelligence that is both within us, as well as surrounds us. The Universe is intelligent we are its arms, limbs, eyes, voices and most importantly Hearts in this physical realm we all find ourselves in. Each of us is here in this life to learn and grow. Healing is a key aspect of those two things. The Medicine is here to assist us in that learning, growth and healing.

Structure of the Medicine Session
There are three stages to a Medicine session.
First is the intake and intention setting process. As always there are forms to fill out, agreements and understandings set in place. Then one of the most important parts is for the participant to think and set their intention for the session. What do you want to get from the journey? What do you want to heal? What do you want help in resolving in your life? Those questions can only be answered by you; set in place as your intention going into the process. You may already know as you read this now what those intentions are; or you may need to sit with, ponder over, and come to some realization of what they are. Before we even meet, those are questions you need to begin considering now, before we get together.
Second is the administration session; where you partake of the Medicine. Once more, you have something to consider beforehand. Have you ever taken psilocybin mushrooms in the past? Do you have an idea of how much you want to consume? You have a few options on the dosage amount. The maximum dose allowed in Colorado is 35 mg of psilocybin, which translates to 5 grams of dried mushrooms. That is a hefty dosage, not for everyone. You can decide if you want to take a lesser amount. You can also decide to start with a lesser amount, and then one hour after taking it, opt for a “booster” of another additional amount. Again, the total amount consumed allowed is no more than 5 grams dried mushrooms (35 mg psilocybin).
The Medicine session lasts 6 hours in duration. By Colorado law, a participant is not allowed to leave the premises until 6 hours has passed since they first ingested the Medicine. Your journey will not last that long; more like 3 or 4 hours as you then gradually come back to this “ordinary reality.”
Third and final piece is the Integration session. That is scheduled for the following day after your administration session. It is a critically important part of your healing in that you get to sit with me once again, this time to review what came up for you during your session and how those insights relate and assist you in answering the intentions you first set prior to your session. In fact, we now know that the first several days following your Medicine session are the most fertile time that those healing intentions are solidified in your Default Mode Network; they are set in place as your new filter system in order to “see” this world through new eyes! In light of that, it is very important how you spend your time, what you focus on, what your interactions are like, what you do for those several days. You do not want to engage in mindless activities; you do not want to be around toxic, individuals; you do not want to be involved in arguments. What you want is to allow this new seeing to settle into place; to become your new Default Mode Network.
The Medicine is not a “magic pill” that is 100% guaranteed to fix all that needs to be healed; however, numerous studies demonstrate that the majority of people have significant changes come about in themselves; changes that last many months and is up to us to help remain a part of us.
In light of that, meditation, prayer, yoga, bodywork and other spiritual practices are encouraged for you, if not already a part of your daily life, to take on as a permanent practice. Working with the Medicine is about changing us, and the Medicine cannot do it all on its own. We are co-creators with it. We also need to do the work.
